2023 is an exciting year for FOCAL as for the first time we are planning to host three events in Ireland this year. The stalwart Waterford event is planned to return this year in a double-header with the returning Dublin event, but the first of our Irish trifecta will take place in Country Sligo on 15th April 2022, the same day as our UK-based eventgoers can take in some Goatdown in Leeds.

How will it work?

It kicks off at 11am, and will be conducted using the Bristol-style classroom format. Everyone gets to see the same sets of letters and numbers, and to play them at the same time. Each person will have a direct opponent assigned. These match-ups will be drawn at random just before the start of each game. Everyone is guaranteed 9 games during the day. The results of the early matches (five 9Rers) will determine the levels for the second half of the day. After lunch we play four 15 Rounders.

As for post-event socials, no major plans yet for weekend except the traditional pub session after (and the night before) – a big lunch provided on the Saturday as well as snacks and drinks. This is a scenic rural lakeside area so bring walking shoes? The next door pub does meals until 8.30pm. Prizes in all 3 levels, so beginners are welcome. Travel and accommodation

Rooms are fully booked on site, but CAMPING IS FINE, or find alternative rooms locally. Campers can use the facilities of the Lodge, which include games room, kitchen and dining rooms etc. Contact Jessamine directly to book.
